Too small, too big, too cool, too warm... this is what I have read from buyers here, and all are wrong!
How do anybody know the temperature of your hydraulic fluid? Did you installed a thermometer??? Or are you using an OBD2 scanner and your vehicle can read it and show it to you on your smart phone or ipod touch??

107 deg Celsius, or 225 deg Fahrenheit, is the maximum hydraulic fluid temperature before it will start to degrade. So anything shorter than that is BETTER, to say it quietly lol.

But what about "working temperature"??? My JDM AWD transmission requires a working temperature of around 75 deg Celsius, 167 deg Fahrenheit, anything lower and the gears wont change... easily.

So are you guys sure your HF temperature is that high to be concerned with??? Mine is, with the AWD and climbing 3000 ft between work and home... at 100+ (115) deg Fahrenheit... I get 110 deg Celsius, 230 F., during the summer.
I am sure those pulling trailers in Texas or Arizona will reach similar to higher temperatures.

But what about the winter??? With bigger cooling capabilities that means the transmissions will fail because the viscosity will never break...

So in other words this cooler will remove a bit of heat from the transmission fluid, perhaps a 5%???? But it wont create issues in winter...

I recommend this cooler for SUV''s and some cars... but I think a bigger one, a lot bigger, is necessary for big trucks pulling big trailers... it''s just logic.

And change the fluid every 60,000 miles... unless you drive a Toyota... they fail too, but one can''t change it that easily

we fried the tranny in our 14 mazda CX-5 on a vacation pulling a 5 X 10 trailer full of camping gear. 3k lesson learned. gearing up for moving to appalachia, not gonna happen again!
both trucks have inline radiator coolers, i installed both AFTER factor radiator coolers. we have mild winters down south. if you live up north you my consider hooking cooler up BEFORE factory radiator cooler.

chevy install was easy. i prefer this orientation (1st pic) over other options. job took 1 hour. no extra hose.
toyota install took longer. this was my best option (pics 2 & 3). make sure "feed" line pumps fluid in at bottom barb and returns fluid "back" to trans out of top barb. did need 2'' extra hose. the one i got for my toyota had excessive paint build up (pic 4) around the barbs, took small file and lightly removed excess paint.
this is a great cooler small but powerful, with a GVWR up to 20,000 pounds, towing up to 2,500 pounds, it is perfect for my V6 and 4 bagger. watch youtube and read car/truck forums on tips for install. i highly suggest mounting cooler in front and away from condenser, if you have that option, you get 100% max cooling that way. make sure to check fluid level after install, i added 1/2 a quart trans fluid to both trucks after install.

I bought this to replace my old tranny cooler in my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0. This one was bigger than I anticipated and was bigger than the current one I had on. Installation was the hardest part due to it being wider. Other than that it works great so far. My recommendation if you have a rubber hose that’s 90 degrees on your old cooler to your cooler lines and you want to use the hose they give you make it a little longer than what you have so their is enough room for fluid to properly flow though. I did however not revive the cooler line connector (the gold piece in the advertised picture) and I can’t message anyone about it so that’s frustrating. Overall it’s solid, sleek and worth the money. Also flush your lines first to get any hunk out so it doesn’t go in your new cooler. You can get a bottle at AutoZone got 13.99$ it took me about an extra 20 min to flush both side out

Keeps my transmission running just a few c cooler on average but it does a much better job passively cooling with no fan than the stock radiator. I''m sure once I install a permanent fan it will show it''s true merit.

It definitely does need more tubing though, just like an extra foot would do. I barely had enough and couldn''t mount it exactly where I wanted but it is quality tubing by Gates. Just make sure you tighten the clamps all the way, they can appear to be tight, and then there''s another couple turns.

The mounting kit comes with metal braces, nuts and bolts, radiator ties, and screws meant for mounting in plastic so there are numerous options. I just ended up using the plastic mounting screws and zip tie.

Also do not believe the 30 minute install time, especially if you have a compact or small sedan. I already had my stock intake removed already and it was still a 90 minute job. On most cars you''ll have to remove the front bumper for mounting and then the splash guard and air intake to get to the transmission lines. So keep that in mind.

Definitely worth the price!

Great little daily driver cooler. Got this for my Jeep XJ, which doesn’t overheat, but the AW4 is known to be a hot tranny. Mine has passed 200k now, so this is just to help continue into older age with a weight off. I occasionally tow my 18ft boat in the summer, and drive uphill to snowboard 5 days a week in winter. Also running 31s with stock 3.55 gears. I don’t have issues currently, but feel like it shifts a litter nicer before it’s been hot for a while.

Install was enjoyable, as a generally handy person. I used existing holes in my XJ, and was able to perfectly line things up. Bracket kit is great - my 677 came with one, but 678 (bought 3 years ago) did not. Brackets bent easily for a perfect fit. All I had to buy, in addition to the kit, were two 3/8 hose barbs for splicing the two lines, and their 4 hose clamps.

A lot of people need more hose for their application, but the supplied 3ft was PERFECT for my 2001 XJ. I mounted the cooler on passenger side near end of the grille, closest to tranny lines (inlet on bottom, outlet on top). Spliced into short rubber section of tranny return line, which is located in the perfect nearby spot in my case. Ran the hoses backbetween grille and headlight, and there were even 2 perfect holes through the frame, which allowed me to route them perfectly, without risk of hitting the nearby mechanical fan. Get the first piece fully fitted before cutting, allowing a small bit of slack, and you may only need the supplied 3ft hose for your vehicle.

With worked perfectly for my application... ''99 Jeep Cherokee XJ, 5.5" lifted & locked, etc.
I was tired of the trans and engine heating each other up due to the trans fluid passing first through the radiator tank then through the cooler ahead of the AC condenser.
So I installed this cooler so the fluid would bypass the radiator then continue on to the front cooler.

By the way, the reason I gave four star was the hose clamps and missing item from the kit, clamps was over sized, so I used smaller clamps to prevent overtightening which will cause deformation of the clamps and leak.

This is works for my Mitsubishi Montero Sport, have original transmission with almost 200K on it, still working fair but because of its age overheating is normal, downshifting was the problem from extreme heat generated specially in hot whether, so I decided to install a trans cooler, problem solved, now I have colder working transmission and better shifting, this cooler is a well made nice looking one and worth the money. By the way, the reason I gave four star was the hose clamps and missing item from the kit, clamps was over sized, so I used smaller clamps to prevent overtightening which will cause deformation of the clamps and leak.

Just what I needed while replacing the transmission in my girlfriends 06'' Honda Odyssey, those things run so hot, so I figured I would take preventative measures with the new Transmission. Came well packaged, I expected "brand x" hose to come with it but much to my surprise they come with Gates brand hoses. I did not try or trust the plastic zip tieish mounts it came with, so I fabricated some brackets to mount it.
